📍Local Events for Founders

I spent years building community online and it was very rewarding. During, and consequently, after COVID, people needed a new way to connect online and social media was instrumental in facilitating those connections.

There are downsides to connecting on social media too. Besides the obvious high dopamine-driven doom scrolling addiction potential, social media gives us the illusion that we are building something we own when really we are just building on rented land.

If this is you, then you are a founder. You don’t have to be raising funds or looking for an angel investor to be considered a founder. You just have to be building something that involves solving a problem for humanity, no matter how big or small.

The other downside to growing community online is that it’s very easy to get comfortable there and forget that there is a whole world right outside your door. People waiting to meet you and have the opportunity to learn from you.

So I’d like to officially encourage you, and gently nudge you, to find some local events and communities to join.

In 2025, I made a point to get connected in Miami and it was one of the best decisions I made for my business and overall life fulfillment.

I got active in my local church and have made solid friendships. I joined a community of 150+ entrepreneurs called Miami Made and a community for women founders called New Miami Girls. I’ve made invaluable connections and had a lot of fun getting out of the house!

Every Tuesday, I’ll be sending out this Beauty & Brains “Get Connected” Edition where I will feature curated events, both virtual and local, specifically for self-funded founders that are building solo or with a small team.

This week we’ll start with Miami and the events will grow from there.
